THE SOURCE FOR ALL YOUR APPRAISAL NEEDS IN NORTHERN NEW JERSEY
We are the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), an international valuation association that teaches, tests, accredits and refers professional appraisers. ASA is the oldest and only major organization in the United States representing all disciplines of appraisal specialists. Our chapter represents over 200 ASA-accredited appraisal specialists with extensive valuation expertise across all appraisal disciplines, including Business Valuation, Gems and Jewelry, Machinery & Technical Specialties, Personal Property, Real Property, and Appraisal Review and Management. We also support, encourage and mentor non-accredited members who are earning their credentials through experience and educational courses. And we take courses ourselves to stay current on new techniques, new fields of inquiry, and especially on changes in the law.
JUNE CHAPTER MEETING
How Men Collect: The Personal Property Market Today
The ASA Northern New Jersey June Chapter meeting at LuNello, Cedar Grove, NJ featured a packed private “wine cellar” of ASA chapter members, new NAIFA associates and guests. Current Chapter President, Donna Thompson Ray discussed the success of the past year’s programs and introduced the 2018-19 Board: Mike Lavelle, President, Donna Ray, Vice President and Lynn Magnusson, Treasurer. The Secretary position will, hopefully, be filled by a NAIFA newcomer to ASA. In a Father’s Day Tribute to gentlemen, Lynn Magnusson, ASA presented an informative and lively 2 credit program, “How Men Collect: The Personal Property Market Today.”
Lynn’s presentation focused on the current market for luxury men’s wristwatches, wine, movie posters, sports memorabilia and athletic artifacts, and comic art. Guests were treated to first-hand appraisal stories, notable photographs, and exciting recent auction sale results, particularly Paul Newman’s $17 million Daytona Rolex, Domaine de la Romanee’s recent market ascent, and the price of a Babe Ruth autograph.
LuNello is a five-star modern Italian restaurant with an innovative chef. Generously subsidized by the Chapter, dinner included an array of appetizers, a selection of entrees and several desserts. The room boasts a private service team including a skilled bartender.
The next chapter-sponsored events will be a summer meeting at the Magnusson Casa del Lago and a September inaugural dinner. Call Lynn at 973-425-1550 for questions or more information.
